The management of Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH) in Osara, Kogi State, has expelled four undergraduate students following disciplinary investigations. The students were found guilty of various offenses, including alleged involvement in lesbianism, physical assault, and cyber-misconduct. These decisions were ratified during the university’s 30th Regular Senate Meeting.
The expulsion letters identified two 200-level female students from the Economics and Accounting departments who were expelled for lesbianism. Another male student was expelled for the physical assault and stabbing of a fellow student, while a Physiotherapy student was sanctioned for cloning and circulating unauthorized photographs of female students.
In addition to the expulsions, one 200-level Radiography student was rusticated for one academic session for fighting. The university management stated that these actions were necessary to maintain moral standards and ensure a safe and conducive learning environment. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Abdulrahman Salawu commended the disciplinary committee for their thoroughness.
The university has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy for social vices and indiscipline, warning all students that any actions capable of jeopardizing their academic future or the reputation of the institution will be met with similar severity. The move has sparked conversations regarding the enforcement of moral codes within Nigerian higher education institutions.
