INEC Resumes Final Phase of Voter Registration May 11

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the third and final phase of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) commences today, Monday, May 11, 2026. This exercise is part of the commission’s intensified preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections. The current phase is scheduled to run until July 10, 2026, providing a final window for eligible Nigerians to register.

INEC explained that the previous phase was suspended in April to allow for a comprehensive data clean-up following the publication of the register for claims and objections. The commission urged citizens who have turned 18, as well as those who missed earlier phases, to seize this opportunity. Provisions have been made for new registrations, transfers, and replacement of lost or damaged PVCs.

To ensure transparency, the commission stated that the updated voters’ register would again be displayed for public scrutiny later in July. This display allows registrants to verify their details and for the public to raise objections to any ineligible names on the list. The commission has reassured Nigerians that all necessary arrangements, including logistics and security, have been concluded for a smooth conduct.

Data from the previous phase showed that over 3.7 million Nigerians completed their registrations. INEC’s focus now remains on maintaining a credible and accurate database to prevent electoral fraud and ensure that every eligible voter can exercise their franchise in the upcoming general elections.
