INEC Responds to Leaked Voter’s Information

According to INEC, access to the CVR data base was by an authentic and authorized personnel of the commission,but the disclosure of information therein to a third party like Lere Olayinka,was not authorized .

This admission by INEC is a massive violation of the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA). The NDPC needs to step in immediately, launch an independent forensic audit, and sanction the individuals involved. Voter data isn’t political property.

If the access was by ‘authentic and authorized personnel,’ then INEC should have a clear digital footprint of the exact user profile, IP address, and timestamp of the extraction. Name the official publicly and hand them over to the police.

Lere Olayinka getting hold of CVR data three weeks to the Ekiti election is not a coincidence. This is pure demographic targeting. Having unredacted polling unit data allows an opposition machine to know exactly where to deploy resources.
