Factional Crisis Hits ADC, New Chairman Elected

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has experienced a internal shift as a splinter faction of the party announced the formal dissolution of the National Working Committee (NWC) led by the incumbent leadership. The group cited a lack of confidence in the previous management’s ability to oversee party affairs effectively, particularly in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections.

In the wake of this dissolution, the faction elected a new leadership team, naming Bashir as the new National Chairman of the party. The development marks an escalation in the power struggle that has plagued the party in recent months, with different factions claiming legitimacy and accusing each other of violating the party’s constitution and internal democratic principles.

The newly elected leadership has stated that their primary goal is to reorganize the party’s structure and foster a more inclusive environment for aspirants. They have promised to address the grievances of party members who felt sidelined by the previous NWC and to implement reforms that will streamline the screening processes for candidates participating in future primary elections.

Political observers are keenly watching the situation, as the internal crisis threatens to destabilize the party’s standing in the political landscape. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is expected to play a role in mediating the dispute, as the party must resolve these leadership issues to ensure that its candidate lists and political activities for the upcoming election cycle remain valid and legally recognized.

It’s funny how these smaller parties always wait until a year before the general elections to start tearing themselves apart. Instead of building a solid grassroots opposition framework, they are busy fighting over who gets to sign the nomination forms

This is exactly why the ruling class doesn’t take opposition coalitions seriously. The ADC had a massive chance to consolidate disappointed voters, but ego and fractional greed have turned them into a court-room comedy sketch
