Adamawa Pilgrims Stranded In Saudi Arabia

Several pilgrims from Adamawa State have cried out over alleged poor treatment and difficult conditions in Saudi Arabia despite reportedly paying more than N8.3 million each for the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage.

In a video circulating online, some of the affected pilgrims claimed they were left stranded without proper accommodation, forcing them to sleep outdoors while battling harsh weather conditions and mosquito infestation. The emotional complaints have sparked outrage among Nigerians, with many questioning how such conditions could occur despite the huge amount paid for the spiritual journey.

The development has raised fresh concerns about the welfare and coordination of Nigerian pilgrims during Hajj operations, especially regarding accommodation, logistics, and accountability by officials responsible for managing the pilgrimage.

As reactions continue to pour in, many Nigerians are calling for an immediate investigation and urgent intervention to ensure the safety and dignity of the affected pilgrims.

Mosquito infestation in Saudi? That means the accommodation they were provided (if any) is in the worst possible areas. For N8.3m, these pilgrims deserve dignity. Nigerians are calling for a full audit of the 2026 Hajj funds to trace every kobo spent on logistics.

The video of them stranded is heartbreaking. These are elderly fathers and mothers who saved for years for this ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ trip. To see them sleeping outdoors after paying N8.3m is proof that our lack of accountability has followed us to the Holy Land.

Hajj 2026 and we are still hearing the same old stories of logistics failure. With the exchange rate making the fare so expensive, the service should be 5-star. You can’t collect millions from people and then leave them to battle harsh weather in a foreign land.

Adamawa State government must intervene now! This is not just a federal issue; these are your citizens. If the officials in charge have ‘eaten’ the accommodation budget, they should be arrested the moment they land back in Nigeria. No one should be above the law.

This is why many people are now preferring to go through private tour operators. The government-managed boards have become too synonymous with ‘stranded pilgrims’ and ‘missing luggage.’ We need an urgent intervention before someone falls seriously ill over there.

N8.3 million can buy a decent plot of land or a car in Nigeria, yet it can’t buy a decent bed in Saudi Arabia for a few weeks? The math isn’t mathing. It seems some people see Hajj as a ‘money-making’ venture rather than a religious service.

Every year we hear about ‘improved welfare,’ yet every year we see pilgrims crying. If Nigeria cannot organize a smooth Hajj after decades of doing it, then we have a deep structural problem with our logistics and management. This is beyond ‘technical hitches.’

N8.3 million per person and people are sleeping outside with mosquitoes? This is a national embarrassment! After paying such a huge amount for a spiritual journey, you shouldn’t be treated like a refugee. Someone in the Adamawa pilgrim board needs to explain where that money went.
