Defending champions Remo Stars doomed for relegation

Remo Stars now look doomed to set an unwanted NPFL record – champions last season and relegated the next.

The Ikenne-based club needed to win today at Bendel Insurance, but they fell short after they were forced to a 1-1 draw by the home team.

As a result they are now 16th in the standings with 47 points and a -5 goals difference, while the match between fellow strugglers Kun Khalifat and already relegated Wikki Tourist rained off today and will now be played tomorrow.

Kun Khalifat only need a draw with Wikki at home to consign Remo Stars to the second-tier NNL.

The Owerri club have 46 points and a goals difference of 0.

El Kanemi Warriors became the third team relegated after they were trounced 3-0 by Enyimba to finish on 47 points and a terrible goals difference of -19.

Champions last season, NNL contenders this season. Remo Stars are trying to set a record that even Chelsea and Leicester City would look at and say ‘no, this is too much.’ What a massive collapse!
