‘We Did It’ — Ajayi Celebrates Hull City Premier League Promotion

Hull City’s incredible season got its fairytale ending at Wembley on Saturday afternoon as they won promotion to the Premier League, beating Middlesbrough 1-0 in the Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Final.Ezoic

Reliable forward Oli McBurnie pounced on a fumble by Middlesbrough goalkeeper Sol Brynn to fire in from close range five minutes into added time.

They are set to return to the English top flight for the first time since suffering relegation in 2017.

Ajayi Thumbs Up Important Win

Ajayi put up an impressive performance in the keenly contested encounter.

The Nigeria international took to the social media to celebrate the win.

“God is the greatest. We did it. Up the Tigers,” the former Rotherham United star wrote on his Instagram page.

Impressive Wembley Display

The centre-back’s composed presence on the pitch proved vital for Sergej Jakirovic’s troops as they battled through a tense final that produced few clear-cut opportunities in the opening 45 minutes.

Ajayi delivered a commanding defensive display in the game, completing 18 accurate passes and registering six crucial clearances.

He also prevailed in two key ground duels, and made two important headed clearances to keep Middlesbrough’s attack at bay in the sweltering London heat.

The 32-year-old, who joined the Tigers on free transfer last summer registered one goal, and one assist in 22 appearances in the 2025/26 season.

Ajayi once played in the Premier League during his stint with West Bromwich Albion.

He signed a two-year contract with Hull City last summer after ending his six-year stint with the Baggies.

“Semi Ajayi back in the English Premier League! 🦅 Form is temporary, but class is permanent. A whole 90 minutes of solid rock defending at Wembley. Super Eagles boys are representing us heavily!

6 clearances and 2 key ground duels won in that London heat? Semi was playing like his life depended on it. Middlesbrough attackers were just hitting a concrete wall for 90 minutes
